Curse’s momentum has been building since the band was formed in April 2000. Curse has played the 1,200-capacity venue Irving Plaza in New York City, worked with legendary photographer Bob Gruen (known for his famous portraits of John Lennon, KISS, and Led Zeppelin), and been produced by Wharton Tiers (Sonic Youth, White Zombie, Nick Cave, Swans) – and the band is just getting started.

Curse plays rock with a pop sensibility and a dark edge, with soul-stirring free-form guitars, eerie vocal melodies, tribal drum rhythms, and catchy bass lines. Their songs have a vibe, and offer a glimpse behind the curtain of mystery. The songs open gateways to hidden realms, creating an atmosphere that draws the listener into a vibrant soundscape interweaving image, motif, lyric and melody.

The band is composed of four veterans of the New York Gothic, rock, and punk scenes, with influences ranging from classic rock to folk to punk to noise.

True to their name, Curse’s songs draw upon occult, historical, and mystical themes, such as New Orleans Vodou, The Rites of Eleusis, and the myths of Dionysios, Orpheus and Isis.

Curse began recording with noted producer Wharton Tiers at Fun City Studios in New York City in August, 2001. As of this writing, February 2002, the debut self-titled CD has been completed. The band is currently seeking label interest.
